Titre : Controlling host-associated microbial communities: a theoretical framework
Résumé : Controlling host-associated microbial communities provides a way to restore disrupted communities in our body and the environment, helping us to improve our health and that of the ecosystems in Earth. But this potential has not been fully harvested due to the lack of a systematic design method for controlling complex microbial communities. In this talk,
I will present our recent work that introduces a rigorous theoretical framework to address this challenge, based on the novel notion of structural accessibility. The framework let us identify minimal subsets of driver species that provide full control of the community and systematically design control strategies for restoring it. We illustrate our framework by simulation, controlling the core microbiota of a sea sponge and the dysfunctional gut microbiota of mice.
